Hawaii (Part Twelve) Random things.

I am almost done ruminating about Hawaii, never you fear. This is the second to last of the many, many posts of my vacation. Really. I promise.

The Buddhist temple I visited is next to a Catholic cemetery. We drove through it for fun and had to ask, "Why do they put roofs on the crosses?"

A roof? Is that even biblical!?!

Yes, we did go to Pearl Harbor and so should you.

Nemy & Nae at Pearl Harbor.

We also had the famous malasadas at Leonard's Bakery

While hiking I often complained about the fact that I was exerting myself. I would ask Dean where my sherpa was. Backorder? Lost in delivery? Alas, I found out it came down to Visa issues. He was stuck in Nepal, but fortunately found work:

My sherpa. I would have called him "sherpie".

Renee told me that what I really needed was a Menehuna, which is a Polynesian version of a jungle fairy. Dean said that they build things and bring water. My internet research showed that: "they possess treasure, which they guard with their lives. They usually live near waterfalls, and if they meet a gentle wanderer who is lost in the jungle, they will usually point the way out themselves or send signs to the lost traveler to lead him out. Sometimes they will invite the traveler to a cool clearing and feed him goodies before sending him on his way. The best thing about a finding a menahuna is if you capture him, he gives you a wish."

I have decided then, in the sherpa vs. menehuna debate that I will take a menehuna anyday. Not only will they feed me and bring me water to drink, I won't get lost and can wish for my dear sherpie, who would appear in a flash. Yeah, menehunas!
